A Study on the Validation of Short Form Child Life Style Scale(SF-CLSS)

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to develop a Korean version of the child life style scale(CLSS) by Stiles and to examine its validity and reliability. In the pilot study, a questionnaire consisting of the adapted original items and questions was completed by 216 elementary school students in grades 4 to 6. And then 662 elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 in Daejon and Gyeonggi answered the questionnaire randomly. The results of this study are as follows. First, The factor analysis adopted to test the construct validity of SF-CLSS showed that SF-CLSS had 3-factor structure. The ruling type shows a characteristic that controls others. The socially useful type has a feature that devotes himself to helping others. The getting type is dependent on others and does not take any responsibilities. Second, statistical analyses of the items and scale quality through reliability analysis of test-retest revealed that the final 33-item SF-CLSS was a proper measure for the Korean children's life style. Third, the result of the confirmatory factor analysis of SF-CLSS is identical with those of the exploratory factor analysis of the pilot study. The validity index of 3 sub scales is also appropriate(RMSEA= .056, NNFI= .86, CFI= .90, GFI= .89). Finally, the correlation analyses among other relevant factors with self-esteem, anxiety and aggression were done in order to measure concurrent validity. Hopefully, this paper could be used for counselling and education efficiently.
